At little eyes big world, we hope to inspire you to get out there and see this big, beautiful world, even if you have littles in tow!

Traveling can be a bit intimidating; there can be so much planning involved, plus time to make the plans, time to take off work, organizing itineraries and packing lists….and oh yeah, money!  If you have kids, especially small ones, the thought of trying to plan a family vacation on the other side of the world may seem too daunting to even start.  Where to begin, you might ask!?  Well, that is where we aim to help!

We want to inspire you through the photos and experiences we have been fortunate enough to have, all over the world.  We want to give you tips on where to start, where to go, how to get there and what to do once you reach your destination.  You too can become travel gurus!!!

We hope that this website serves as a useful tool for planning your next trip.  Search by location (e.g. Marrakech or Paris) in our location menu for inspiration or recommendations on where to eat, what to do and where to stay!  If you are newer to travel, or traveling for the first time with littles, visit some of our travel tip pages on how to plan a family trip, booking flights with kids or hotel vs Airbnb with kids. If you want to know more about our crazy family, read about us and follow us on Instagram!

Family travel expert for international travel

So we are not officially travel experts, or experts at anything, really.  But we do travel internationally with our small children, a lot.  If that is more than you travel, then hopefully we can contribute some advice to your future travels!

Some people are able to pick a destination, purchase a flight and then figure the rest out when they get there.  Well, someday maybe we too will have that luxury when our kids are grown and traveling on their own adventures, but for now that is not really an option for us.  The last thing we want is to land in a foreign country at 11pm with no accommodations lined up, no idea what kind of transportation options we have to get to said accommodation, all with several pieces of luggage and two small kids who are hangry, tired and possibly (probably) not cooperating.  Sounds like torture, not vacation!  PLAN PLAN PLAN!!!  If you are traveling with kids, planning is not optional.  You will have whimsical vacations at a later time (again, when those kiddos are grown and gone, or at least when they can walk on their own, feed themselves and wipe their own asses!).

Don’t bite off more than you can chew.  You know yourself, spouse and/or kids.  You have a good idea of what their limitations and desires are.  So start small.  If you are unsure, use our travel tips and destinations to figure out what might be a good fit for you and yours.  Please don’t get stuck comparing yourself to travel instagrammers or even us for that matter.  Any travel is good travel.  Enjoy your time exploring the world, whether it is a destination a few hours from where you live or a multi country excursion on the other side of the planet.  The point is the experience and sharing it with those you love.

We love nothing more than watching our girls faces when they see or experience new things for the first time, the way our oldest is willing to try any food you put in front of her and the way our youngest forces us to find yogurt and raspberries because thats the only things she is willing to eat for the whole trip!  We love meeting the wonderful, diverse people of this world and experiencing the multitude of cultural differences from our own!  Learn. Share. Inspire.

We want our kids to have an appreciation for all that this world has to offer.  We hope that this website offers you motivation to do the same for yourself and your children, if you have them!

I don’t owe anybody anything. We’re happy. Pullin I don’t owe anybody anything. We’re happy.
Pulling them out of school for a trip.
Apologizing to strangers for my kids acting like kids.
Letting them stay up late in a city that’s awake.
Spending money on a week instead of a thing.
Skipping the famous museum because everyone was done.
Ordering them food they might not like.
Letting them wear the same outfit three days in a row.
Going back to the same place.
I didn’t stop apologizing because I got braver. I stopped because I realized I’m happy with our life and the way we do things, and we’re happy as a family. I’m proud of that. I think being 40 made me realize...I’m good. Anyone else experience this phenomenon in their 40’s?
We are not rich. We just say no to a lot of things We are not rich. We just say no to a lot of things other people say yes to, and people always ask how we do it, so here’s the list.
Eating dinner out.
The movie theater.
Big birthday parties.
A newer car.
The bathroom remodel.
A new fence.
The car still runs. The bathroom still works. The fence is still standing. The girls have had trips instead of birthday parties for years and they’d pick the trip every time.
None of that is a sacrifice to us, which is the part that’s hard to explain. It’s just where the money goes.
Follow along for more on how we make big trips happen on a moderate income.

Saint-Germain, in the 6th. When you’re walking around it feels like it’s all locals walking with you, and it’s still on foot to almost every big place we want to see. We do nearly the whole trip walking from there.
The cafe culture is the reason we keep going back to it. Luxembourg Gardens is right there and the girls treat it like their park.
Every place we stay, eat and walk to in Paris is pinned on our Paris map. Comment PARISMAP and you’ll be the first to get it.
I know. I’ve read the comments in my head before y I know. I’ve read the comments in my head before you’ve typed them.
Every one of these came from doing it, not from a book. The car seat stays home. The strangers were kinder to my babies than some family members. The babysitters were vetted and we had a wonderful dinner.
If you’ve been quietly doing any of these, you’re in good company. Follow along for the rest!
It takes four minutes and we do it in the airport It takes four minutes and we do it in the airport before every single trip.
The hardest part of teaching a kid what to do if she’s lost is that you have to pick somebody for her to trust, in advance, in a place neither of you has been.
We don’t say find a police officer. In a lot of the places we go you can’t count on finding one, and a small child can’t tell a uniform from a uniform.
We say find a mom with her kids, or a woman working behind a counter. A mom will almost always stay with a lost child. A woman behind a counter isn’t going anywhere, so she can be found again. A helpful stranger walking past can’t.
Comment AWARE and I’ll send you the exact words we use and the four minute drill.
Her mood was getting bad. Not dramatic, just a ste Her mood was getting bad. Not dramatic, just a steady slide into arguing and tears, and more times than not it was about the iPad.
The thing that fixed it wasn’t taking it away. It was consistency. Same thing to earn it, same amount of time, same hour of the day, every day, no exceptions. Once she knew exactly when it was coming, she stopped thinking about it the rest of the time, and we stopped having to say no.
The first three days were rough. By the end of week one she’d stopped asking. By week three she was a different kid, and honestly so was I.
Comment SCREENS and I’ll send you the exact rules, including how we kept it going once school started.
