Our Mazagan Beach Resort Review, After Three Weeks in Morocco

This Mazagan Beach Resort review comes from four nights on the Atlantic coast at the end of a three week Morocco trip, when our girls were completely done with sightseeing. Here is what the resort is actually like with kids, from the room and the pools to the food, and why it worked so well as a last stop before Casablanca.
After three weeks of exploring the beautiful country of Morocco we were ready for some R&R. Mazagan Beach Resort in El Jadida was the perfect spot to accomplish this, while still being a convenient hours drive to Casablanca airport for our journey home. We spent four nights at this resort and enjoyed the beach, pool, an array of activities and good food while never having to leave the property. It was just what we needed after the hustle of site seeing new things everyday for almost three weeks.
The resort itself is beautiful with a nod to Moroccan design while still feeling like a beach resort.
The front desk and concierge were all very helpful, polite and spoke english. Pretty much all of the staff we interacted with were very pleasant. There were staff posted up everywhere, kind of felt like security guards, but I think they were just there to assist anyone that might need assisting.

The Accommodations
The Mazagan Beach Resort was extremely clean and well appointed throughout the property from the rooms to the lobby to the pool. We were there during covid, so there were not a lot of guests, I imagine it could look a bit different if it were at full capacity.
We opted for a ground floor room, which is the same level as the pools, beach and the breakfast restaurant but one level below the lobby and most of the restaurants.

The room was spacious and modern. It had many satellite channels available in many languages, Dawson was stoked to watch some TV for the first time in weeks! The bathroom had a large tub which was a plus for the girls! The patio with lounge chairs mostly served as a great spot to dry our swimsuits in between wears, but it did have a nice view of the pool too. The room was overall as good as any high end resort. I had no complaints.
The Activities
One of the main reasons I chose this resort was the abundance of activities for the family at Mazagan Beach Resort. I didn’t want to go anywhere during our stay here so I wanted there to be enough for the kids to remain entertained, and there certainly was!
While Kaida was still a little young to participate in some of the activities, Viona sure got her fill! There was archery, rock wall climbing, ropes course, trampoline, horses, ATV’s and golf to name a few.

If it was up to Viona, we probably never would have left this amazing playground! Some activities are included in the cost of your stay and some are extra. Like the archery is free but the rock wall climbing is not. They have a nice price sheet on their website for non inclusive activities.
Viona and I also did a girls spa day! She is my little spa fanatic. I legitimately never did pedicures myself until Viona came along and now we go for all the special occasions because she is obsessed. Can’t wait till she gets a job and can pay for them herself! HA! Anyways, I decided to treat her to a couples massage while we were here…and that was a mistake. Not because of the massage but because she keeps asking for them now!!

Above is the entry into the resort spa. I opted not to take any photos inside for privacy reasons, I felt it was polite not to do so. The interior was nicely appointed. The locker room was very clean and they provided robes and flip flops etc. for moving around the spa. The masseuses did a wonderful job and I think they were quite entertained by how much Viona truly got out of her massage. We finished up with Viona’s quintessential pedicure and left happy campers. The cost of the spa treatments here were also similar to western standards. And don’t forget to tip!
Then there is the pools!!!

The main pool is in the courtyard surrounded by the resort and it is huge! There were plenty of chaise lounges, umbrellas and complimentary towels available. There were also these nice little canopy beds to lounge in, or for Kaida to nap in…

The kids pool is separate. It is outside the courtyard, and it is a very cool little pool for the littles.

Of course the kids thought the waterfall was pretty rad, but nothing beats waterslides. There were two waterslides, a small one for the real youngsters and then a longer one for the bigger kids.

Both were pretty mild slides, nothing exhilarating, but enough to be fun for the kids and safe enough that mom and dad didn’t need to chaperone getting to the top and back down (at least for Viona, she was 6 at the time). There was also always a lifeguard present and the kids pool.
The Beach!!!
The Mazagan Beach Resort has a private beach with plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas. I posted up on the lounge chair while the kids did their beach routine!
The water was cool but tolerable. We live on the Pacific ocean and where we are the water is always very cold. Here the water was nicer, I would say more comparable to San Diego ocean temps.
There is also a restaurant server that stops by the lounges if you are in the mood for a drink or hungry for a bite to eat. I am a sucker for a good mocktail and I usually share with the girls. Dawson was stoked that there was a full bar and will aways jump at the chance for a nice cold vodka tonic.
When the kids got hungry, I just ordered a pizza delivered right to us beachside. The girls were stoked to eat pizza right there so we didn’t have to cut into their playtime too much. I am pretty sure Kaida ate equal parts sand and pizza…
The walk down to the beach from the rooms takes about 5-7 minutes. The grounds of the resort are very nice so it makes for an enjoyable walk. We often did beach in the morning and pool time in the afternoon. The kids slept well every night!
The Food
Onsite there are 6 indoor restaurants, 4 outdoor restaurants and 3 bars/lounges. Plenty to choose from! At least under normal circumstances. Since we were there during covid the resort was at low, possibly very low capacity, so only a few of the restaurants were open during our stay.
Breakfast is included in your stay at Mazagan Beach Resort. It is a large buffet spread with plenty to choose from. Our favorite is always the custom omelette bar. The kids were happy with cereal, bacon and large assortment of pastries. There was plenty of in door and outdoor seating where the breakfast is served.
The Buddha Bar Beach Restaurant is the restaurant that serves the loungers on the beach but we also ate at the actual restaurant too. The view is awesome since it’s practically on the beach. The servers were attentive and the food was good for lunch fare.

For dinner, two of the restaurants were open; La Cave Rustic Bistro and Sel De Mer Seafood. We preferred Sel De Mer Seafood and ate there for three of our four dinners. They had a better menu (in my opinion) and the atmosphere was far superior.
They offered the usual kids items, pasta, french fries, and even salmon. You can guess what Kaida opted for every night… (I swear she should have turned into a potato by the end of our Morocco trip)
These are a sampling of some of the Appetizers we ordered…

And this is a sampling of a few of the entrees we enjoyed…

And of course here are some of the desserts we devoured…

The service was exceptional and we were lucky enough to have the same server all three nights, so he really took the time to get to know us and was SO great with the kids. He even treated them to a couple free mocktails he thought they would enjoy!
The cost of the food was comparable to a nice restaurant in the US or Europe, so normal by western standards but still a bit of sticker shock after eating around Morocco for far less.
Overall
Our experience at Mazagan Beach Resort was exactly as I anticipated and hoped for. It was both relaxing not having to go anywhere but also filled with fun activities for the family onsite. The quality of the food overall was better than most places we ate in Morocco with the exceptions of a few places in Fes, Marrakech and Ouarzazate (and our home cooked meal in Ourika!) Also having a a full bar for dinner and lunch was awesome for Dawson, and probably most folks. Since Morocco is a predominately Muslim country there are very few places with liquor or alcohol period.

I also appreciated the complimentary shuttle (basically a private van) that took us the hour drive to Casablanca airport on our departure. All I had to do was tell them what time our flight was leaving and the concierge organized everything free of charge.
As a parent, it was also nice that there was a doctor on site. We didn’t need one but just in case it’s nice to know it’s there if you need it.
If you are looking for an Atlantic ocean retreat in Morocco in close proximity to Casablanca, this is the perfect place! So many people fly in/out of Casablanca regardless of their final/intended destination in Morocco so this makes for a perfect spot for a beginning or end of the trip retreat.

Mazagan Beach Resort With Kids: What to Know Before You Book
A few things I would tell a friend before she books.
- Ask for a ground floor room. Ours sat on the same level as the pools, the beach and the breakfast restaurant, which saved us a lift ride with wet kids every single time.
- Ask what is included. Some activities come with your stay and some cost extra, so sort that out at check in rather than after your kid has picked a favorite.
- The kids pool is separate. It sits outside the courtyard and it is shallow, so the littles get their own space and you are not hovering in the deep end.
- Breakfast is included. It is a big buffet with plenty of choices, which matters a lot when you are traveling with a picky eater.
- There is a doctor on site. We never needed one, and it was still the thing I was quietly glad about.
- Book the shuttle to Casablanca. It is essentially a private van and the drive is about an hour, which made our travel day home painless.
